The Department of Trade and Industry and Negosyo Center Porac, together with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, conducted a Business Opportunity Seminar and Financial Literacy Seminar for Sangguniang Kabataan Chairmen and Counselors last February 20, 2024. The objective of this seminar was to motivate the youth to succeed entrepreneurially by equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to operate a business. The seminar started with a module on business opportunities conducted by DTI Negosyo Center Business Counselor Amelia Latag.

The module included topics such as entrepreneurial mindsetting, how to start a business, qualities of an entrepreneur, and business planning, including product planning, organizational planning, financial planning, and marketing planning. During the discussion, the importance of having a business plan that includes different aspects of operation like product, organizational, marketing, and financial planning was emphasized. To help the youth with their businesses, DTI programs and services were also presented, which they could readily tap into through the various Negosyo Centers in municipalities near their place.

The second module of this project was on financial literacy, in partnership with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Ms. Ma. Lourdes Laconsay, Regional Economic Affairs Associate, led the discussion on the First Polymer Piso, savings and budgeting, debt management, digital management, and cyber hygiene. BSP and the Department of Interior Local Government’s project on Financial Inclusion’s Palengke-QR Ph Plus Program was also shared with the participants.

It was a productive day for the youth, who expressed their gratitude not only for the knowledge and skills obtained but also for the inspiration and motivation to start their businesses and become entrepreneurs.
